The Wayfarers Kickstarter promo cards add optional Townsfolk, Land, Water, Inspiration, and Comet cards. Here is how to shuffle them in, when to use them, and what to skip.

Quick answer

The Wayfarers of the South Tigris promo cards are optional. Shuffle the 2 Townsfolk cards into the Townsfolk deck, the 2 Land cards into the Land deck, the 2 Water cards into the Water deck, and the 2 Inspiration cards into the Inspiration deck. Keep the single Comet card separate and use it only if you want a rare, high-risk event. If you are teaching new players, leave all promos out for the first game.

What is in the Wayfarers promo pack?

The Wayfarers: Kickstarter Promo Cards set contains 9 cards, all 54 x 86mm. There are 2 Townsfolk, 2 Land, 2 Water, 2 Inspiration, and 1 Comet card. The set is optional and designed to be mixed into the matching decks of the base game. Because the cards are spread across four different decks, you cannot add them as a single stack. Each card type goes into its own draw pile.

Before you shuffle: sort and check

Sort the promo cards by type before you touch the base game. Check that you have 2 Townsfolk, 2 Land, 2 Water, 2 Inspiration, and 1 Comet card. The Comet card is the one that does not belong in a standard draw pile. If you are missing a card or have a duplicate, stop and contact the seller before shuffling. Mixing an incomplete set into your game makes it hard to remove later.

How to add the Wayfarers promo cards in five steps

  1. Separate the promo cards by type: Lay out all nine cards. Group the 2 Townsfolk, 2 Land, 2 Water, and 2 Inspiration cards. Set the single Comet card aside. Checkpoint: you should have four piles of two and one single card.
  2. Shuffle each pair into its matching deck: Shuffle the 2 Townsfolk cards into the Townsfolk deck, the 2 Land cards into the Land deck, the 2 Water cards into the Water deck, and the 2 Inspiration cards into the Inspiration deck. Shuffle each deck thoroughly after adding the promos. Common mistake: shuffling all eight cards into one deck. They belong in four different decks.
  3. Decide what to do with the Comet card: The Comet card is not part of a standard deck. Use it only if you want a rare event. A simple method is to place it face up near the board and treat it as a one-time event when a specific trigger occurs, such as revealing a particular card. If you are unsure, leave it in the box. Checkpoint: if you cannot explain the Comet card’s trigger to all players before the game, do not use it.
  4. Play one game with promos and one without: After your first game with promos, play a game without them. Compare how often the promo cards appeared and whether they changed the outcome. This helps you decide if they are worth keeping in your regular setup. Verdict: promos are best for experienced players who want variety, not for teaching games.
  5. Store the promos separately when not in use: Keep the promo cards in a small bag or alongside the base game box. Do not leave them shuffled into the main decks if you plan to teach new players. Label the bag so you can find them quickly. Next step: if you also own Inventors of the South Tigris, store its promo cards separately to avoid mixing the two sets.

Product facts

  • Wayfarers: Kickstarter Promo Cards: This product is a promotional card set from the 2021 Wayfarers Kickstarter and can optionally be used with the game Wayfarers of the South Tigris. Includes: 2 x Townsfolk Cards, 2 x Land Cards, 2 x Water Cards, 2 x Inspiration Cards, 1 x Comet Card (all 54 x 86mm). The cards are split across four decks, so you need to separate them before setup. The single Comet card is the only one that should not be shuffled into a standard deck.
  • Inventors: Townsfolk Promo Cards: This product is a promotional card set from the 2025 Dice Tower Gamefound Campaign (Card Set 6) and can optionally be used with the game Inventors of the South Tigris. Includes: 6 x Townsfolk Cards that get shuffled into the Device Card Draw Pile (54 x 86mm) and 1 x Rules Card (54 x 86mm). This is a different promo set for a different game. Do not mix it into Wayfarers.
  • Scholars of the South Tigris: The aim of Scholars of the South Tigris is to be the player with the most victory points (VP) at the game’s end. Points are gained by translating scrolls, increasing knowledge in various areas of science and mathematics, influencing the 3 guilds, and by retiring translators after their years of faithful service. The game end is triggered once all 4 caliph cards have been revealed. This is a separate South Tigris game, not a Wayfarers promo. If you want a new experience rather than a small card addition, this is a full base game.
