Legacy of Yu es un juego de campaña no lineal, exclusivamente para un jugador, totalmente reiniciable, en el que asumes el papel del héroe legendario de la dinastía Xia, Yu el Grande. Tu trabajo será construir los canales antes de la inminente inundación, mientras defiendes tu creciente aldea de las tribus bárbaras vecinas. Con cada partida, se compartirán historias y se añadirán nuevos elementos de juego. La campaña cuenta con un sistema de autoequilibrio que se adapta a lo bien que lo estés haciendo. La campaña termina una vez que ganes o pierdas siete partidas.
