Lycans are a new playable secret society that can be added to both the base game and the Merica Expansion.
Each round the Lycans will alternate between the new moon and full moon ruleset. This changes how they place their shape tokens, and how others are affected by their bids.
The moon phase switching keeps every round tense — you never settle into one strategy because the ruleset flips on you. Lycans fit right into both the base game and Merica without feeling bolted on. Easily my favorite society to play so far.
The full moon rounds hit way harder than I expected, and having to switch strategies every other turn keeps everyone at the table on their toes. Fits right into the base game without any rules headaches.
I was a bit worried the alternating moon rulesets would slow down our game night, but they actually add a nice layer of tension that keeps everyone on edge. The Lycans feel genuinely distinct from the other factions, and the flip between new and full moon gives them a strategic rhythm I haven't seen
